Dr. Laura Berman Intimate Basics Phoebe Vibrator Review

phoebe reviewThe Dr. Laura Berman Intimate Basics Phoebe vibrator by CalExotics is a clitoral stimulator.  It certainly has its benefits and drawbacks.  Check out the video below where I discuss them in detail (and run into a surprise threesome!).  If you’re just doing a quick drive-by, here are the pros and cons in a nutshell:

Things I love about the Phoebe

  • Cordless and rechargeable (6 hours of charging time gets you 1 hour of use)
  • Very ergonomic and easy to hold
  • Powerful
  • The textured, interchangeable, silicone heads all feel different and wonderful.  I like that their surface area is wider than what you would find in similar vibrators.

Things I don’t love about the Phoebe

  • Dear lord, is it LOUD!

phoebeIf noisy sex toys bother you or you need to be quiet due to roommates or kids, this I likely not the toy for you.  It’s loud. I mean LOUD. Think helicopter, jet ski, propeller plane, lawn mower kind of LOUD.

If noise doesn’t bother you or you do most of your self pleasuring under a layer or two of covers which muffles the sound— go for it! The Phoebe is very similar to one of my favorites, the Wahl massager, but it’s not identical.  The heads on the Dr. Laura Berman Phoebe are wider than on my old fave and have a variety of really cool textures— that’s something my Wahl doesn’t have!

For me, however, noise REALLY irritates me and I couldn’t get past it.  That one drawback overshadowed all of the other great things about this toy.  Although the Phoebe retails around $65, I see it pop up on the internet often in the $30-40 range.  That’s not bad for a rechargeable toy.

My final word is:  You know you— if noise is an issue, steer clear.  If noise isn’t a deal breaker or if you do all of your diddling buried under covers, this is a powerful clit stimulator and reasonably priced for a rechargeable sex toy. The Phoebe might just be what you’ve been looking for!
