Consent & Safewords

Sexual consent seems simple. No means no, right? But what does consent look like in the context of various situations: on a date, with a significant other, with a spouse or during a BDSM scene? Is consent valid when given under the influence of alcohol or drugs? In real world situations the line between sexual consent and sexual coercion can easily become blurred.

In BDSM scenes, consent can be more difficult to define. Are safewords enough to determine and maintain consent? Can consent be revoked? Who is responsible for making sure consent is respected and everyone remains comfortable throughout the encounter? What are the advantages and pitfalls of BDSM contracts? How do you deal with a scene that goes wrong?

In this workshop we’ll define consent, examine common societal assumptions, discuss pre-negotiation techniques for vanilla and kink scenarios, learn how safewords work and look at the differences between kink and abuse. We’ll give you tools to help you set and respect sexual boundaries in any type of physical relationship. You’ll walk away with techniques for keeping consent sexy and with a fresh approach to creating safer, more satisfying sexual encounters.

About the Instructors
Ken Melvoin-Berg is Chicago‘s premier pervert and resident sexstorian. His vast sexual knowledge and dirty mind come in very handy when he covers subjects such as: Japanese Rope Bondage, Electric toy play, Balloon Bondage, BDSM 101 and Networking for Kinky People.
